Leonard "Lenny" Coutu |
Leonard “Lenny” Coutu, age 78, of Tiverton, RI, passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at Highlander Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. He was the husband of Leona (Misek) Coutu Born in Fall River, a son of the late Antonio C. and Florida (Lariviere) Coutu. He was a graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, class of 1948. Mr. Coutu served in the U.S. Army, as a corporal, during the Korean War, where he earned the National Defense Service Medal. He was the proprietor and operator of his family’s business, Stafford Fuel, for 33 years. He was a parishioner of St. Theresa’s Church in Tiverton, RI. Mr. Coutu enjoyed flying his seaplane and a was a member of AOP Flying Club. Besides his wife, of 45 years, survivors include a sister, Mirette (Coutu) O’Brien and five nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Leonard Coutu, Jr. Mr. Coutu’s funeral service will be held on Monday, December 8, 2008 at 9:00 AM from the BOULE FUNERAL HOME, 615 Broadway, Fall River, MA, followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 AM in St. Theresa’s Church, Tiverton, RI. Roland "Pete" Hanley |
Roland “Pete” Hanley, age 89, of Somerset, MA, passed away Monday, December 1, 2008 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Theresa P. (Garant) Hanley. Born in Fall River, a son of the late Ernest and Annie (Ouellette) Hanley. He served in the U.S. Army, as a corporal, during WWII. He was employed by the Fall River Police Department for almost 30 years, first as a motorcycle officer and then becoming a detective until his retirement. He was a parishioner of the former St. Williams Church. In his younger years he played in various local bands. He is survived by a son, Dennis Hanley of Westport, MA; three grandchildren, Renee DaCunha, Michelle Panonni and Rachel Gallegos; six great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Adrian and Lionel Hanley, Lorraine Lord and Bertha Alex. Mr. Hanley’s funeral service will be held on Friday, December 5, 2008 at 10:00 AM from the BOULE FUNERAL HOME, 615 Broadway, Fall River, MA. Interment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River, MA. Frances (Phaneuf) Daugaard |
Frances (Phaneuf) Daugaard, age 81, of Somerset passed away on Saturday, November 22, 2008 at the Clifton Rehabilitative Nursing Center in Somerset. She was the wife of the late Harold Daugaard. Born in Canada, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Marie (DuBois) Phaneuf. She was one of nine children. She employed as a Floor Lady for Fairchild Company when she lived in California in earlier years. She is survived by a son, Roger Phaneuf of Swansea; and two step-sons, Dennis Daugaard of Texas and Danny Daugaard of New Jersey. She is also survived by a granddaughter, Cheyenne Rose Phaneuf of Swansea and several nieces and nephews. Lorraine (Berard) Napert, age 82, of Fall River passed away on Monday, November 24, 2008 at the Monroe Clinic in Monroe, Wisconsin. She was the wife of the late William N. Napert. Born in Fall River,MA she was a daughter of the late Edouard A. and Irene (Cote) Berard. Mrs. Napert graduated from St. Anne’s School of Nursing in 1948 and worked as a Registered Nurse at St. Anne’s Hospital in Fall River for many years. She was a member of the Jesus Mary Academy Alumni association, Saint Anne’s School of Nursing Alumni Association. St. Mary’s Cathedral Senior Association and the Classy Ladies. She was also a past treasurer and president for ACA Assurance for Bristol County. She is survived by 5 sons: William N. Napert, Jr. & his wife Janice of Fall River, Donald E. Napert of Lakeville, Gerald P. Napert & his wife Stephanie of Sterling,VA, Michael R. Napert & his wife Susan of Fall River, Marc A. Napert & his companion Glory Barnes of Fall River; and a daughter, Denise C. Smith of Broadhead,Wisconsin; two brothers: George Berard of Lompoc, CA, and Wilfred Berard of Sacramento,CA; a sister, Rita Lapointe of Swansea, MA; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was also predeceased by a daughter, Christine A. Cabral; a brother, Frances Berard, a sister, Lillian Ramunno; and two grandchildren. Alcide A Caron age 96 of Lawton St Fall River passed away Saturday November 22, 2008 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. Husband of the late Beatrice A (Hardy) Caron. Born in Fall River MA, son of the late Louis Caron and the late Leontine (Morrissette) Caron. Mr. Caron worked for the former Nash Electric as a repairman and a salesman. He was parishioner of Holy Trinity Parish, he enjoyed playing cards, fixing thing, electrical work, playing the violin. Mr. Caron is survived by a son Raymond Caron and his wife Jacqueline of Whittier CA, a daughter Rachel Laroche and her husband Ronald of North Redding MA, five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Annette Michaud, Eva LaFrance, and Cecile Thiboutot. Mr. Caron’s funeral service will be held on Tuesday November 25, 2008, 9:30 AM from the BOULE FUNERAL HOME, 615 Broadway, Fall River, MA, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in Holy Trinity Parish, 951 Stafford Rd, Fall River MA. William F. Cyr |
William F. Cyr, Retired Fall River Police Officer, of Somerset passed away Wednesday November 19, 2008 at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River after a brief illness at the age of 71. He was the husband of the late Phyllis M. (Barcelou) Cyr. Born in Fall River, MA, he was the son of the late William J. and Jeanette (Monast) Cyr. He was the proud father of four: Judith Medeiros & her husband Paul of Westport, Gerard Cyr of Fall River, Kelly Furtado & her husband Ronald of Somerset, and Dawn Cyr & her husband Peter of Fall River. He also left behind eleven grandchildren and had given them each a special nickname when they were born. He was a hero to all of them, and each and every one of them held a special place in his heart. They are: Melanie Oliveira, Paul Medeiros, Crystal Medeiros, Steven Duarte, Christopher Teves, Timothy Teves, Jenna Cyr, Kasey Amaral, Michael Amaral, Jared Furtado, Nicholas Furtado; and greatgrandchildren Autumn Oliveira, Alissa Oliveira, Austin Oliveira, and soon to be Liam Medeiros. He was the brother of Irene Gordon of California, Pauline Guilmette of Florida, John P. Sousa of Colorado, and the late Theresa Cabral. Mr. Cyr served in the US Air force as a radar operator, and served thirty years in the Army National Guard. He had proudly served on the Fall River Police Department Uniform Division for over twenty years. Upon retiring from the police department, he worked as a security officer at Charlton Memorial Hospital for twelve years. Joseph Cavaca, age 53, of Fall River, formerly of Tiverton, RI, passed away Monday, November 10, 2008 at St. Anne’s Hospital, Fall River, MA. Companion of Linda DeBlois Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Joseph and Myrtle (Almy) Cavaca. He was employed as a truck driver for Fusaro Transportation and was an avid Harley Davidson motorcycle rider. Mr. Cavaca is survived by two sons, Eric Cavaca of Fall River, MA and Douglas Cavaca of Bristol, RI; a daughter, Shana Silvia of Tiverton, RI; several sisters; and many nieces and nephews. Henrietta J. (Mathieu) Delisle, age 89, formerly of Tiverton, RI, passed away Sunday, November 9, 2008 at Saint Elizabeth Manor, Bristol, RI. She was the wife of the late Gerard A. Delisle. Born in Fall River, she was a daughter of late George and Josephine (Lemaire) Mathieu. She was a parishioner of Holy Ghost Church since 1954. She was employed as a hat maker by the former Korber Hat. Mrs. Delisle is survived by two sons, Daniel F. Delisle of Tiverton, RI and Robert P. Delisle and his wife Denise of Colchester, CT; two grandchildren, Nicholas and Michael Delisle. She was predeceased by seven brothers and three sisters. Raymond Canuel, age 84, formerly of Montaup St., Fall River, MA,, passed away Saturday November 8, 2008 at Sarah S. Brayton Nursing Care Center. Born in Fall River, MA. a son of the late Hermenegilde Canuel and the late Arthemise (Plourde) Canuel. Mr. Canuel was a lifelong resident of Fall River. He served in the U.S. Army . Mr. Canuel was a custodian for the Fall River Public Schools Department for many years. He was a parishioner of Notre Dame Church, where he was a member of its Holy Name Society. He was also a member of the AARP and the Fall River Municipal Retirees. He is survived by several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Yvonne Raymond, Lauretta Jalbert, Valeda “Val” Michaud, Adelard Canuel, Albert Canuel, Omer Canuel and Leonel Canuel. Kendil R. Charette, age 40 of East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI passed away Tuesday October 20, 2008. Born in Fall River MA, daughter of Lawrence Silva and Hilda (Costa) Silva of Tiverton RI. She graduated from BCC, she was a registered nurse. Kendil is survived by a son Kevin Jr., three daughters Madison, Megan, Krystal, a brother Gregory Silva and his wife Karen of Randolph, MA, a sister Debra Assad and husband David of Fall River, and one niece and nephew. Henry St. Laurent, age 93, formerly of Beach St., Fall River, MA, passed away Monday, November 3, 2008 at Catholic Memorial Home, Fall River, MA. Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Louis St. Laurent and Clara (Gagnon) St. Laurent. Mr. St. Laurent served in the United States Army, during WWII, as a Technician Fourth Grade. He received a Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Campaign Ribbon, American Defense Service Medal and a Victory Medal. He worked as a carpenter with the Merchant Marines for many years before retiring. He was a parishioner of St. Anne’s Church and enjoyed walking. Mr. St. Laurent is survived by several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late George, Arthur, Napoleon, Ernest, John, Exilia “Celia”, and Bernadette St. Laurent and also Lorretta Sousa. Eilleen M. Geary, age 87, of 301 Milliken Blvd. Fall River, MA, passed away Monday, October 27, 2008 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late Robert J. and Rachel F. (Flynn) Geary. She enjoyed politics and had worked in the voter registration during election time. She is survived by a son, Robert J. Geary of Fall River; a niece, Dorothy DiGiacomo and her husband Carmen of Pittsburgh, PA as well as several other nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Anthony, Robert, Raymond and Edmund Geary and Dorothy McBride. Edna (Santos) Connors, age 68, of Fall River, MA, passed away Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at home. She was the wife of the late James E. Connors. Born in Fall River, and a daughter of the late Denarte and Caroline (Medeiros) Santos. She worked at home as a homemaker most of her life. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and crafts, but most of all she enjoyed her family. She is survived by four sons, Guy Santos, Robert Santos, Michael Connors and James E. Connors, Jr. all of Fall River; one brother, Denarte “Sonny” Santos of Tiverton, RI; eleven grandchildren, two great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and three daughter-in-laws. Mrs. Connors’ Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at 7:00PM in the BOULE FUNERAL HOME, 615 Broadway, Fall River, MA. Frank A. Parkhurst |
Frank Arthur Parkhurst, age 88, formerly of Marble Street, Somerset, MA, passed away Sunday, October 26, 2008 at Sarah S. Brayton Nursing Care Center. He was the husband of Ethel M. (Sowter) Parkhurst. Born in Fall River, MA, and lifelong resident, he was the son of the late Frank D. and Rose (Wilkinson) Parkhurst. He was employed as an overseer in Borden City Mill until its closing and then became a banker for the former Fall River National Bank. He was on the Board of Trustees for the 1st Primitive Methodist Church where he was a member of it’s choir and Sunday School teacher. He was voted Volunteer of the year by the United Way. In 1974, he received a Community Service award from the Fall River Chamber of Commerce. He was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America. He was treasurer for the Fall River Historical Society, Moby Dick BSA and Fall River Kiwanis Club. He was a member of the Model Railroad Club of Portland, ME, Little Rhody R.R. Club, VFW in Somerset Post 8500 and the American Legion Post 0314. He was also a member and treasurer of the International Order of Odd Fellows. Mr. Parkhurst served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army, 977th Signal Service Co. during WWII with the Allied Forces Headquarters, General Eisenhower commanding. He served in the 5th Army Headquarters in Italy. He received two Battle Stars and other decorations and his unit received Presidential citations. In November 1942, the unit sailed from Liverpool, England to North Africa aboard a British ship and was torpedoed in the Mediterranean Sea. Besides his wife of 66 years, he is survived by a two sons, Frank A. Parkhurst, Jr. of Fall River, MA and Bradford E. Parkhurst of Merrimack, NH; one daughter, Donna J. Rosebrock of Somerset, MA; one sister, Ruth Boothroyd of Wildwood, FL; He was an inspiration to his five grandchildren and his six great grandchildren. Mr. Parkhurst’s Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at 11:00 AM in Bliss Four Corners Congregational Church, Stafford Road, Tiverton, RI. Kathleen A. (Perry) Lopes, age 52, of Shore Drive, Fall River, MA, passed away unexpectedly, Saturday, October 25, 2008 at Beth Isreal Hospital, Boston, MA after a courageous battle. She was the loving companion & friend of Skip Auclair of Fall River, for 28 years. She was born in Fall River, MA, a daughter of the late Frank and Gilda (Costa) Perry. Kathleen graduated from B.M.C. Durfee High School, class of 1974, then later earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from SMU Dartmouth, MA. She worked in Fall River C.E.T.A. program as a counselor and later for various Insurance Companies in Brockton, MA and Providence, RI. She helped establish W.O.R.D. (Women’s Occupational Resource Development) in Fall River, 1985. Kathy enjoyed traveling, music (especially country) and most of all her family. She is survived by her loving daughter, Erica Canedy and her husband Eric of Fall River; a grandson, the “love of her life” Hunter Canedy; three brothers, David, Michael and Stephen Perry, all of Fall River; six sisters, Carolin Walsh of Fall River, Elaine Andrade of Fall River, Nancy Lambert of Little Compton, RI, Jean Brault of Somerset, MA, Geraldine Miranda of Fall River and Linda Foreman of Fall River; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Frank Perry and Mary Dion. Raymond B. Morin |
Raymond B. Morin, age 86, of Fall River, MA, passed away Thursday, October 23, 2008 at Southpointe Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center. He was the husband of Edna R. (Berube) Morin. Born in Fall River, MA, he was the son of the late Napoleon and Elizabeth (Paquette) Morin. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. during WWII. Mr. Morin was employed as an Industrial Safety Officer at Charlton Memorial Hospital as well as an Occupational Safety Health Administrator. He was a parishioner of St. Anne’s Parish, where he was a Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Senior Citizen’s Group and also a member of its Parish Committee. He was a recipient of the Marion Medal in 1997. He was a member and past Grand Knight (1954-1955) of the Knights of Columbus, Fall River Council #86 and was actively involved in the Engaged Encounter Movement of the Fall River Diocese. He was a graduate of BCC and was a member of the National Honor Society. He was honored by a Fall River Family for enhancing family life during a banquet at the Venus de Milo. Besides his wife of 61 years, he is survived by a son, Raymond B. Morin, II of Doylestown, PA; two daughters, Deanna Mello of Swansea and Celeste Warner of East Greenwich, RI; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Noella Guay, Yvonne Morin, Yvette Proulx, Rita Morin, Antonin Morin, Aime Morin and Napoleon Morin. Edna Pauline (Belmore) Chagnon, age 85, formerly of Shirley Ave, Somerset, MA passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at Country Gardens Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of the late Roland Arthur Chagnon. Born in Fall River, MA, a daughter of late Joseph David and Lumine (Dube) Belmore. She moved to Somerset over fifty years ago and was a parishioner of St. Louis de France Church. She was a former Girl Scout Leader and PTA President at Wilbur School, Somerset, MA. She was employed as a physical therapist for the former Hussey Fall River General Hospital and the rehab unit at Charlton Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Chagnon is survived by two sons, Roland A. Chagon, Jr. of Swansea, MA and Paul Chagnon of Fall River, MA; three daughters, Paulette E. Carmone of Warren, RI, Vivian C. White of Dighton, MA and Dianne C. Chagnon of Pawtucket, RI; one sister, Doris Levesque of Fall River, MA; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Miss Jane H.M. Watras age 86 of 111Borden St. Fall River MA passed away Thursday October 9, 2008 at home. Born in Fall River MA, a daughter of the late John Watras and Eva (Ozga) Watras. She worked in her family’s grocery and meat market many years and later on worked in a bakery business before retiring. She is survived by a sister in-law, Celia Watras of Fall River MA. She was the sister of the late Matthew Watras, Stella Watras, and Celia Watras. Miss Watras’s Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday October 18, 2008 at 10:00 AM in St Mary’s Cathedral, Spring St, Fall River MA. Interment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery Fall River MA. Russell J. Murray, age 81, of South Main Street, Fall River, MA, passed away Saturday, October 11, 2008 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. Born in Fall River and a lifelong resident, a son of the late Isaac and Marion (McQueney) Murray. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, where he earned a National Defense Service Medal. He had worked as a dishwasher for Earnshaw’s Diner for 42 years and was a volunteer for the Salvation Army. He was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Cathedral most of his life. He was an avid Red Sox fan. Mr. Murray is survived by two brothers, Kenneth Murray of St. Petersburg, FL and Alexander Murray of California and one sister, Susan Languirand of Zephis Hills, FL. He was also the brother of the late Donald, Joseph and Gilbert Murray. Thomas W. O’Melia, age 95 of Pleasant Street, Fall River, MA passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at St. Luke’s Hospital, New Bedford, MA. He was the husband of Grace (Raffa) O’Melia. Born in Fall River, MA, a son of the late Walter P. and Alice (Morton) O’Melia. He served as a Signalman First Class in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was employed by the former Decorative Fabrics as a maintenance man for many years. Besides his wife of 63 years, he is survived by one son, Peter O’Melia; three daughters, Ann Fortier of Swansea, MA, Eileen Gregg of Westport, MA and Kathleen Tompkins of Fall River, MA; a brother, Robert O’Melia of Fall River, MA; eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was also the father of the late Thomas V. O’Melia and the brother of the late, John, Walter, Herbert, Henry and Edward O’Melia and Ellen McManus, and grandfather of the late Timothy Beaudoin. Mr. O’Melia’s Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2008 at 4:00PM in BOULE FUNERAL HOME, 615 Broadway, Fall River, MA. |

Lorraine LePage, age 81, of Durnell Avenue, Roslindale, MA, passed away Monday, October 6, 2008 at Beth Isreal Hospital, Boston, MA. Born in Fall River, MA, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Irene (Jutras) LePage. She worked in customer service for AT&T Telephone Co. in the Boston area for many years. She was very active in the Commission for the Blind, and was an avid Red Sox fan, she enjoyed vacations, Boston Pops and Red Sox games, but most of all she enjoyed family gatherings. She is survived by two brothers, Albert LePage, Jr. of Fall River and Robert LePage of Cotuit, MA; two sisters, Jeannette Coppinger of Tiverton, RI and Joyce Pacheco of Fall River, and several nieces and nephews. Miss LePage’s funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2008 at 9:00AM from the BOULE FUNERAL HOME, 615 Broadway, Fall River, MA, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM in Immaculate Conception Church, Thomas Street, Fall River, MA. Interment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River, MA. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2008 from 4:00PM to 8:00PM. |

Edmond M. Souza, age 97, formerly of Canal Street, Fall River, MA, passed away Monday, September 29, 2008 at the Fall River Jewish Home. He was the husband of Mary C. (Camara) Souza. Born in Falmouth, MA, a son of the late Manuel F. and Maria (Conception) Souza. He was employed for many years as a salesman for the former United Mens Store and Robert Hall Men’s Clothing Store. He was a parishioner of Santo Christo Church and enjoyed the stock market, traveling and most of all his family. Besides his loving wife of 69 years, he is survived by a son, Roger P. Souza, Sr. and his wife Mary K. of Fall River, MA; three grandchildren, Kathleen M. Engle and her husband Thomas of Farmington, CT, Roger P. Souza, Jr. of Norton, MA and Christopher J. Souza and his wife Jacqui of Attleboro, MA; four great grandchildren, Blaise, Tabor and Harrison Engle and Camden Jack Souza; He was the brother of the late Anibal Souza, Ernest Souza, Lydia Oliveira, Georgina Viveiros and Beatrice Souza. Mr. Souza’s funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2008 at 8:45AM from the BOULE FUNERAL HOME, 615 Broadway, Fall River, MA, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:45AM in Santo Christo Church, Columbia Street, Fall River, MA. Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Robeson Street, Fall River, MA. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 3, 2008 from 4:00PM to 7:00PM.
